Course overview

HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation is a nationally recognised unit of competency that equips participants with the skills and knowledge to perform CPR on adults, children and infants, and to operate an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). This course is ideal for individuals, community groups and workplaces wanting to ensure their team can respond effectively in a cardiac emergency. Training is delivered by qualified paramedics with real-world emergency experience.

What participants will learn

• Recognise the signs of cardiac arrest in adults, children and infants
• Perform high-quality chest compressions and rescue breaths
• Operate an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
• Apply the DRSABCD action plan
• Manage an unconscious casualty and apply the recovery position
• Manage airway obstruction in adults, children and infants
• Communicate effectively with emergency services
• Understand the legal and ethical responsibilities of a first aider

Assessment requirements

Assessment for HLTAID009 includes a short online theory component and a practical skills assessment conducted in person. Participants must demonstrate competency in CPR technique on a manikin, including correct hand placement, compression depth, rate and rescue breaths. AED operation is also assessed practically. There are no written exams.

Entry and prerequisite requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for HLTAID009. This course is open to all participants aged 14 years and over. Participants should be physically capable of performing chest compressions. Please contact us if you have any concerns about physical requirements.
